DIY: Dyed Pasta

Color can add so much to any medium. Adding color to sensory materials is probably easier than you think. This post features dyeing pasta but the same process can be used for beans, chickpeas and other sensory materials. Before you read any further I want to note that this process uses acrylic paint and hand sanitizer so it would not be a taste safe option. Keep that in mind if you have littles who are still mouthing items. If you are looking at a taste safe option you may want to give food coloring and vinegar a try.

How to Dye Pasta:

Check out a quick video of this process from our Instagram here.

1. Place your pasta in a large baggie.

2. Add acrylic paint- enough to cover the pasta. Add a little at a time until you get the amount you need.

3. Add hand sanitizer- I added just a few squeezes.

4. Seal the bag then toss until the pasta is covered.

5. Line a cookie sheet with wax paper and spread the pasta out to dry.

Once it is dry you are good to go!

There are so many ways to use dyed pasta in creating and play. How would you use it in your home?
