Day 3: Hot Chocolate Math Games

Any hot chocolate fans??

Once the cold weather hits hot chocolate can be a welcome treat. What better way to draw little mathematicians in than to incorporate a sweet surprise?

Welcome back to Day Three of the 12 Days of Holiday Giveaways. This resource includes several variations of math games centered around hot chocolate. This will be one to revisit throughout the whole winter season. Even better, revisit with a mug of your favorite flavor.

The resource includes a page with detailed directions on how to prepare the materials along with variations of play, so I won’t go into all those details here. The skills incorporated include subitizing, one to one correspondence, number recognition, matching and comparing quantities and even simple addition and subtraction if you choose. The description offers options for competitive play as well as cooperative play to meet your preference. Changing up the type of play can make a familiar game exciting with simple alterations.

All of the materials you need are included in the bundle. Feel free to swap out some components for physical manipulatives. We had fun using real marshmallows in place of the marshmallow cards. However, these game pieces kept disappearing…hmmm.

I hope you enjoy the Hot Chocolate Math Game Bundle! Be sure to share what your favorite game variation is. Tag us in your play on social media at Play Beyond the Lines.

You will find your Hot Chocolate Math Games here.
