This has quickly become a Halloween favorite. We transformed our mud kitchen into a spooky witch’s kitchen. Using our Witch’s Kitchen Recipe Cards as inspiration, we added a bit of this and a bit of that to bring it all to life. You can find your own copy of the recipe cards in the website shop here or in our Etsy shop here. The set includes two versions of the cards to accommodate siblings, one for readers and one that features visuals.

We were able to really use our imagination for the ingredients. Using the cards, we turned everyday objects into spooky ingredients fit for a witch. A few additions were purchased on a Dollar Tree run but most came from our kitchen or right outside. The kids moved a shepherd hook to hold a cauldron and built a “fire” to cook over. Then we spread everything out to see and explore with.

The kids used the recipe cards to create each concoction. They gathered ingredients and used a little of this and a lot of that. The favorite was the combination of “poison” and “witch’s powder” (vinegar and baking soda). I didn’t tell them what I used for those two and they were so surprised when their potions fizzed and bubbled. After the cards were all used, they created their own recipes. They danced around the area singing Halloween songs and made me potions, brews and stews to enjoy. I know this will continue to be a frequented area all season long.
