Pasta Necklaces

Pasta Necklaces

Pasta necklaces never seem to lose their charm! There is something about threading the colorful pasta noodles onto yarn then getting to wear your masterpiece for all to see. Pasta necklaces make the perfect art station or party activity for little ones. Not only are they stylish but they foster independence, work fine motor skills and hand eye coordination as well.

We went old school for this addition to Charlotte's 3rd Birthday Art Party. With little ones we figured it may be best to have a few art stations that they could come and go to as they pleased. One popular station was the Pasta Necklace table. I don't think any child or adult left the party without at least one pasta necklace.

There were a few things for this activity that I prepared prior to the party. Looking back, I am really glad I took the time before the party as it made the whole process go smoothly.

Prepare the Pasta:

I began by dyeing the pasta. You find the super easy tutorial on our DIY: Dyeing Pasta post here. With it being an art party we wanted a variety of colors. I began with the primary colors then added secondary as well

Prepare the Yarn:

I began by cutting yarn pieces for the necklaces. I cut them longer than I estimated we would need to allow them to choose their desired length. I used Duck Tape to cover one end to make threading easier for little fingers. I taped a section that was a little longer than a pasta noodle. I tied a single noodle to the other end of the yarn. The purpose of this was to prevent the pasta from sliding off the other end. Keeping the guests’ ages in mind this was a good call. By preparing the yarn ahead of time, I saved a lot of time during the party. Having the yarn ready to grab and go made a big difference.

Invitation to Create:

For each station, our goal was to have all of the materials easily accessible and at an easy height for all ages. We used pallets with a solid top as tables. Covered with tablecloths these made the perfect stations. To set up the Pasta Necklaces, I used two 3-section trays I picked up at the Dollar Tree to display the colorful pasta. I place the yarn in a bowl but scattered a few on the table to initially draw a few creators over.

Once a few visitors stopped by this table never sat empty. Once all of the kids made their necklaces they made jewelry for their adults as well. It was a perfect keepsake to send home with all of the guests.

Be sure to save this post to refer back to later. Share it with others who need a little pasta jewelry in their collections.
